Graph showing ANC performance across frequencies
Dual Processor (V1 + QN1) + 8 mics = best low-frequency isolation in class

New design: softer pads, stepless slider, 250g — wears for 8+ hours
Phone and laptop both connected via Bluetooth multipoint
Seamless multipoint: pause video on laptop, take call on phone

Pros

  • Industry-leading ANC: dual processor (V1+QN1) + 8 mics silence planes, trains, offices
  • 30-hour battery (ANC on), 3-min charge = 1 hour, USB-C
  • Multipoint Bluetooth 5.2: two devices, seamless switching
  • Speak-to-Chat, Adaptive Sound Control, Auto Pause — smart features that work
  • LDAC + DSEE Extreme + 360 Reality Audio for high-res streaming
  • Lightweight (250g), soft fit leather, stepless slider — all-day comfort

Cons

  • No aptX Adaptive / Lossless (LDAC only for hi-res)
  • Case is bulky semi-hard shell — doesn't fold flat
  • Touch controls can be trigger-happy in wind/rain
  • Sound signature: warm/V-shaped — not neutral/reference
  • No wired USB-C audio (3.5mm only, passive)

Who Should Buy This

  • Frequent flyers/commuters needing maximum ANC
  • Office workers in open-plan needing focus
  • Anyone wanting 30+ hour battery with quick charge

Our Verdict

The **Sony WH-1000XM5** remains the **gold standard for ANC headphones**. No competitor matches the combination of low-frequency isolation, 30-hour battery, multipoint reliability, and all-day comfort. Sound is consumer-tuned (warm, bass-forward) — EQ in app fixes it. For travel and focus work, it's still the one to beat.
